The Beinecke Scholarship Program was established in 1971 to provide substantial scholarships for the graduate education of students of exceptional promise. Each year, approximately 100 colleges and universities are invited to make a single nomination to the Beinecke Scholarship Program. The Beinecke provides $34,000 in funding towards a PhD in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

Hudson McFann, a Columbus, Ohio native, is pursuing a BA in Geography. He is president of Students for a Sustainable Campus, which he leads in a number of key environmental initiatives. He is researching environmental health issues in southeast Ohio as part of a project with Becky Mansfield, associate professor of geography. He plans to earn an MA and PhD in geography, with an environment-society emphasis, working toward his ultimate goal of becoming a professor of geography and an environmental consultant.
