Sociology: applying it to the world of work

Our students are active and engaged individuals interested in society's demographics and what makes them tick. And that knowledge, obtained at Ohio State, can translate into many different career choices, including jobs in:

  • Health and social services
  • Family planning
  • Youth and elderly services
  • Criminal justice and corrections
  • Law enforcement
  • Child welfare
  • Job and family services
  • Housing, labor, and agriculture
  • Government and non-profit sectors

But for some students, a career in sociology drives a desire for advanced study. Sociology, law, business, public administration, social work, public health, and urban planning – all of these graduate and professional school tracks are some of the natural next steps for Sociology graduates, and our career counselors support students in every step of the process.

Regardless of what direction our students take, it's the education our students receive, the internships they can experience, and the mentoring programs and career counseling they can leverage that opens the doors to a broad range of career possibilities.

Student Profile

My major in criminology at Ohio State has given me so many awesome internships. After my freshman year, I worked with constituents at my congresswoman's district office, and this past year, I interned with the West Virginia Division of Corrections in Victim Services. Now I'm applying for the FBI Honors Internship, all because of Ohio State."
